Prior to pursuing doctoral training in psychology, I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Business Management. It was during my undergraduate studies that I had a positive experience in psychotherapy and decided to become a psychologist. Aside from choosing to marry my wife, it's one of the best decisions I've ever made.
I received my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Auburn University and completed my doctoral internship at Texas A&M University. During my training, I had the opportunity to work in university counseling centers, rehabilitation hospitals and private practice settings.
Upon completing my doctoral degree, I worked in the counseling center at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN for two years before moving to Nashville in 2011 and starting my private practice.
I am a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA), Nashville Psychotherapy Institute (NPI), Nashville Group Psychotherapy Society (NGPS), and Tennessee Psychological Association (TPA). I served as a board member and co-chair of NPI and am a founding member and president-elect of NGPS.
When I'm not working, I love spending time with my wife Ruth (she's also a therapist) and teenage daughter and son. I also enjoy goofing off with friends, running, working in the yard, reading and learning about new things.
